As serpentes apareceram no planeta por volta de 120 milhões de anos atrás. Seus membros reduziram durante sua história evolutiva. Para se deslocar, movimentam o corpo longo em ondulação. As articulações entre os ossos que formam o crânio e maxilares são flexíveis, permitindo que ampliem o tamanho da boca e da cabeça de uma forma que nenhum outro vertebrado é capaz.
 

Snakes appeared on the planet around 120 million years ago. Their limbs have reduced during their evolutionary history. They move their long body by undulation. The joints of the skull and jaw bones are flexible, allowing them to expand the size of the mouth and head in a way that no other vertebrate is capable of.
